In a recent directive from his prison cell, Imran Khan, the incarcerated Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has instructed party leaders to steer clear of individuals within or outside the party attempting to sabotage the relations between PTI, Pakistan’s military, and intelligence agencies.
Newly appointed Senior Vice President of PTI, Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, revealed that Imran Khan has emphasized the need to disassociate from elements targeting the Pakistan Army and fostering discord between PTI and the military. Imran Khan consistently asserts the military’s crucial role in ensuring the nation’s security and defense.
Sher Afzal Khan Marwat conveyed Imran Khan’s message, stating that efforts should be made to dispel the perception that PTI opposes the military. Imran Khan has always affirmed the importance of the armed forces in safeguarding the country, and he has paid tribute to the sacrifices of the armed forces’ martyrs.
Furthermore, Marwat highlighted Imran Khan’s expressions of solidarity with the families of young officers and soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. Imran Khan has consistently demonstrated empathy and solidarity with the families of martyred armed forces personnel, dispelling any notion of PTI’s anti-military stance.
Marwat, a senior lawyer, also mentioned Imran Khan’s explicit instructions to distance PTI from elements engaged in anti-military propaganda on social media. Imran Khan expects the party to publicly condemn individuals within its ranks or associated with PTI who tarnish the image of the armed forces.
Additionally, Marwat clarified that if individuals tarnishing the military’s reputation are found within PTI’s social media circles, the party will sever ties with them. Imran Khan urged PTI supporters and social media activists not to adopt an anti-military narrative.
Sher Afzal Khan Marwat, who also serves as Imran Khan’s legal counsel in various court cases, emphasized that PTI, under Imran Khan’s leadership, will not tolerate any elements within or associated with the party attempting to malign the armed forces. He underscored that PTI holds the armed forces in high regard and will continue to express solidarity with them.
In recent public gatherings organized by PTI, the party has raised slogans in support of the Pakistan Army, and tributes have been paid to the martyrs of the armed forces. Imran Khan’s directive reflects his commitment to maintaining a positive relationship between PTI and the military, reinforcing the party’s stance as a proponent of national security and defense.
