Pakistan-China Friendship at 75: A New Era of Strategic Cooperation

As Pakistan and China celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations, both countries are reaffirming their long-standing partnership and exploring new avenues of cooperation for the future. In an interview, Chinese Consul General in Karachi, Yang Yundong described the relationship as “ironclad” and resilient despite changing global dynamics.

He said the anniversary marks not only a historic milestone but also a fresh beginning for stronger cooperation in trade, technology, infrastructure, and regional stability. According to him, the friendship between the two nations has remained strong due to mutual trust and support on core national interests.

A major focus of the discussion was the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Yang stated that CPEC has already brought billions of dollars in investment, created thousands of jobs, improved highways, and enhanced Pakistan’s energy sector. He added that CPEC 2.0 will now focus on industrialisation, agriculture, green development, innovation, and improving the quality of life for ordinary Pakistanis.

The Chinese diplomat acknowledged that security challenges remain one of the biggest obstacles to further progress. He stressed the need for stronger counter-terrorism cooperation to ensure the safety of Chinese workers and projects in Pakistan.

Discussing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China, Yang said both countries aim to deepen strategic communication, strengthen security collaboration, and implement long-term development plans for 2025-2029.

On defence cooperation, Yang clarified that China-Pakistan military ties are defensive in nature and not directed against any third country. He also highlighted growing collaboration in science, space technology, and modern innovation sectors.

The interview also touched on education and artificial intelligence. China plans to expand scholarships, vocational training, and AI-related cooperation through educational institutions and technology partnerships. Yang said such initiatives could help Pakistan transform its large population into skilled human capital.

Regarding regional tensions involving Iran and the United States, China reiterated its support for peaceful dialogue and appreciated Pakistan’s role in mediation efforts. Yang emphasised that conflicts have no winners and called for diplomacy, mutual respect, and regional stability.

Concluding the interview, the Chinese envoy said China and Pakistan would continue working together to strengthen peace, economic cooperation, and long-term strategic partnership in an increasingly uncertain world.
