Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), has stated that he is committed to the decisions of the PPP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) and abides by Asif Zardari’s directives regarding household matters.
Speaking to the media, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari mentioned that according to the constitution, general elections should be held within 90 days. The topic of elections was discussed during the PPP’s CEC meeting, and it was agreed that elections should take place within 90 days.
He emphasized that the people are facing difficulties, and the economic situation is deteriorating day by day. Bilawal stated that whenever Pakistan needed sacrifices, the people had willingly given them. Now, it is the people’s right to question what the government is doing for them.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari clarified that they had no intention of pushing for a vote of no confidence; rather, they want the current government to focus on its responsibilities. He also expressed that they have no objections to caretaker setups.
He promised that the PPP’s government would be a government of the people, just as Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had led the country towards economic prosperity. He mentioned that the people-friendly government would work on projects like land and housing schemes. The PPP is the only choice for addressing the people’s issues, and all solutions to Pakistan’s problems lie with elected representatives.
Bilawal emphasized that they are not currently running an election campaign but are mobilizing for solidarity. He praised the warm welcome received during the recent visits to different regions, where people expressed their concerns about the difficult circumstances they are facing, including challenges in providing food for their families.
Bilawal mentioned that the PPP is always prepared for elections, and they have a track record of success in local elections, which reflects people’s trust in the party. He highlighted the worsening economic conditions, with rising concerns about how to send children to school and pay utility bills. He mentioned that international monetary negotiations often come with the call for sacrifices from the people.
Referring to the past, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari recalled that when Benazir Bhutto took office in 1988, the country faced economic difficulties. However, the PPP managed to improve the economic situation within a year. He asserted that when the PPP is in power, it represents the interests of the working class, and when others come to power, it becomes a business-friendly government. He concluded by stating that people want solutions to their problems instead of divisive politics.
