The Ministry of Railways has eliminated 17,101 positions as part of its Rightsizing Policy to enhance efficiency and optimize resources.
During a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Rightsizing, chaired by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb in Islamabad on Monday, the Ministry of Railways presented a comprehensive report on its rightsizing initiatives.
The committee was informed that of the 95,859 sanctioned posts in the ministry, 17,101 have already been abolished, while an additional 5,695 positions are in the process of elimination.
The meeting also reviewed progress on rightsizing measures across other federal ministries. The Establishment Division reported confirmations from 29 ministries and one constitutional body regarding the abolition of 11,877 posts and 4,660 positions classified as dying posts. Furthermore, 15,000 additional positions are expected to be phased out soon.
The ministry’s presentation emphasized efforts to align its operations with its core mandate by reducing redundant roles, enhancing operational efficiency, and optimizing resource allocation.
The meeting concluded with directives to continue implementing phased rightsizing measures across all federal ministries to achieve long-term efficiency and sustainable policy outcomes.
