SBP to roll out new currency notes with enhanced security features in 2025.

The Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), Jameel Ahmad, announced plans to issue new currency notes starting in the second half of 2025. These updated notes will feature advanced security enhancements and will gradually replace the existing series, one denomination at a time.

Ahmad revealed that the SBP aims to obtain federal cabinet approval for the new notes within the next two to three months, targeting completion before June 2025. The introduction will follow a phased approach, with each denomination being launched separately to ensure a smooth transition.

While the specific denomination to debut first remains undecided, Pakistan’s current currency lineup includes Rs10, Rs20, Rs50, Rs100, Rs500, Rs1,000, and Rs5,000 notes. Ahmad clarified that the new notes would not enter circulation before the beginning of the 2025-2026 fiscal year, set to commence in July 2025.
