Government announces 50% reduction in electricity rates for EV charging stations.

The federal government has decided to slash electricity prices for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by 50% to promote EV adoption in Pakistan.

Currently, charging stations pay Rs45 per unit, which rises to Rs71.10 per unit after taxes. Under the new plan, stations will be charged Rs23.57 per unit, with the post-tax cost dropping to Rs39 per unit.

The government has submitted a petition to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to formalize the new rates, with a hearing scheduled for February 12. The petition outlines that the difference in tariffs will be managed through cross-subsidization.

This initiative aligns with Pakistan’s goal of transitioning 30% of vehicles to electric by 2030, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and lowering carbon emissions.
