General Syed Amir Raza has been awarded the prestigious Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) by President Asif Ali Zardari at a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr, marking another significant milestone in the senior officer’s military career.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the chiefs of Pakistan’s armed forces. The award comes after General Raza was promoted to the rank of four-star general and appointed Commander of the National Strategic Command (NSC), a senior position within Pakistan’s national security structure.

General Syed Amir Raza previously served as Chief of the General Staff at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promoted him from lieutenant general to four-star general before appointing him to his new position.
The NSC Commander position was created following amendments to the laws governing Pakistan’s armed forces. The Army, Air Force and Navy Amendment Bills passed in 2025 resulted in the abolition of the position of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

General Raza has served as brigade major of an infantry brigade and as General Staff Officer Grade-2 at the Chief of General Staff Secretariat.
