At the first Buckingham Palace garden party of the season, an “attention-seeking” guide dog stole the spotlight as Queen Camilla shared a delightful moment with him. When Camilla gently rubbed the chin of Jeanette Binns’ Labrador, Haworth, the dog rolled onto his back, prompting laughter from those nearby as the Queen tickled his belly. Camilla called him “lovely” and expressed her honor in meeting him.
The King and Queen hosted up to 8,000 guests at the royal garden party, where community leaders, charity workers, and notable figures gathered for an afternoon tea on the palace lawns. The event saw the consumption of around 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches, and 20,000 slices of cake. Guests, who were invited to wear national dress or casual summer attire, enjoyed the sunny occasion.
Jeanette Binns, an equalities officer from Lancashire County Council, shared her thoughts on Haworth’s behavior: “He did pile it on a bit. He knows how to impress. I’ve always said he’s an attention-seeker, he’s gone up a notch with this.”
Among the guests, a group from the Ebony Horse Club—supported by the Queen—was also selected to meet the royal couple. Queen Camilla was particularly impressed by China Morgan’s colorful My Little Pony-themed shoes, calling them “cool.”
The King, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, met several social influencers, including Sports Illustrated model Kelly Crump, who shares her journey of thriving after breast cancer.
The Princess Royal also joined the event and had a humorous exchange with charity runners Craig McMurrough and Sarah Temple, who fundraise for ovarian cancer through events like the London Marathon. When Anne was told about their planned participation in the Sydney marathon, she joked, “Really, are you joking?”
Anne, laughing at photos of their outfits as “Mr. and Mrs. Ovary,” quipped, “Do you run around like that? Good of you not to turn up like that.” The duo has raised over £100,000 for Ovacome, an ovarian cancer charity.
The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, along with the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, were also present and spent time meeting the guests.
