The Election Commission’s decision to seek military assistance underscores the gravity of security concerns and the commitment to conducting free and fair elections. As the nation prepares for the electoral process, the collaboration between civilian and military authorities becomes pivotal in ensuring the safety and integrity of the democratic exercise.

Responding to a question, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi warned that forcing Imran Khan out through the courts would have negative repercussions. He maintained that if Imran Khan faces legal consequences based on facts, it should be accepted. However, if manipulated or biased cases are pursued, history and the public are unlikely to accept the outcomes.

Qureshi’s family members, including his wife Bushra Bibi, sisters Alima Khan, Noreen Khan, and his daughter and son, were present in the courtroom. During the proceedings, Shah Mahmood Qureshi demanded clarification on the legal basis under which the Trial Official Secrets Act was being invoked and questioned whether the amendments were approved.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf parliamentarians have also called for an investigation into the intra-party elections, questioning the legitimacy of the process. Former federal minister Pervez Khattak urged the PTI to conduct transparent internal elections before raising questions about the transparency of general elections.

Senior Deputy Convener of MQM, Mustafa Kamal, added that their focus is not on seeking ministerial positions or alliances with the heads of political parties. Instead, they are striving for authority at the district and grassroots levels.

Mehdi asserted that despite being actively involved in various governments over the past 40 years, the MQM has failed to serve the people of Karachi. He criticized the MQM’s track record, emphasizing that Karachi’s residents have not benefited from their participation in different administrations.

Imran Khan, permitted by the court, elaborated on his position, alleging that the saffron envoy sent by the United States aimed not only to remove him but also had malicious intentions against Pakistan. He emphasized that when such an envoy was sent to remove him, it indicated a conspiracy, questioning how he could be removed by any envoy.

The court’s order emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability in the conduct of political parties, especially during election campaigns. By summoning key officials, the court aims to ensure a fair and just assessment of the situation, focusing on ethical standards and compliance with electoral regulations.

The appeal pertains to the increase in Nawaz Sharif’s sentence in the Al-Azizia reference, and the hearing is set to take place in the Islamabad High Court on the same day as the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) Al-Azizia reference.
