Anwaarul Haq Kakar sworn in as caretaker prime minister

ISLAMABAD:
Former senator and ex-Balochistan Awami Party member Anwaarul Haq Kakar was sworn in on Monday as the eighth interim prime minister of Pakistan.

President Arif Alvi administered the oath of office to Kakar at the Aiwan-i-Sadr in Islamabad.

Opposition Leader in the Sindh Assembly, Rana Ansar, emphasized that in the event of a deadlock over selecting a caretaker chief minister, the issue would follow a procedural path. According to him, if consensus cannot be reached regarding the appointment, the matter will be escalated first to the parliamentary committee, and subsequently, if necessary, to the Election Commission

Decision on caretaker Prime Minister

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed his optimism that a decision regarding the caretaker prime minister’s appointment would be reached by Saturday. He engaged with reporters in Islamabad, sharing his plan to confer with coalition party leaders on Friday night, followed by a meeting with Leader of the Opposition Raja Riaz either on Friday or Saturday.
