Pakistan-Iran JEC concludes with major agreements to boost trade, energy, and cultural cooperation.

The 22nd Session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Economic Commission (JEC) was held in Tehran on September 15–16, 2025, marking a significant step in strengthening economic, trade, and cultural ties between the two neighbors.

The Pakistani delegation was led by Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, while Iran’s side was headed by Minister for Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadeq. Both ministers signed protocols at the conclusion of the session.

The agenda focused on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, energy, agriculture, transport, housing, health, education, and cultural exchanges. Technical sessions were led by Muhammad Humair Karim, Secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Dr. Amin Taraffo, Senior Advisor to the Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development.

Key Outcomes:

  • Trade & Investment: Both countries reaffirmed the $10 billion bilateral trade target, agreed to remove tariff and non-tariff barriers, operationalize border markets, and encourage regular B2B meetings.
  • Energy & Infrastructure: Agreements included boosting electricity exchanges, resuming the 220 KV Gwadar transmission line project, exploring renewable energy ventures, and forming a Joint Working Group for power sector investment.
  • Agriculture & Environment: Joint initiatives will focus on veterinary health, pest control, seed development, and combating climate issues such as sandstorms and mangrove degradation.
  • Transport & Connectivity: Plans were made to strengthen road, rail, air, and maritime links.
  • Cultural & Educational Cooperation: Both sides agreed on cultural festivals, media collaborations, academic exchanges, and vocational training programs.
  • Health & Labour: Collaboration will expand in joint medical training, pharmaceutical registration, disease surveillance, and worker mobility in construction, textiles, and agriculture.

On the sidelines, a Joint Business Forum was held on September 15, 2025, bringing together business leaders from both nations.

In closing remarks, both ministers expressed satisfaction over the progress and reaffirmed their commitment to deeper ties. Jam Kamal Khan emphasized that the outcomes would pave the way for stronger cooperation and announced that Islamabad will host the 23rd JEC session.
