‘The Pitt’ and ‘The studio’ win top honours at Emmy awards 2025.

Medical drama The Pitt pulled off a surprise victory at the Emmy Awards on Sunday, being named Best Drama Series ahead of frontrunner Severance. The HBO series also earned Noah Wyle his long-awaited first Emmy for Best Drama Actor after five prior nominations for ER. “Wow. What a dream this has been,” Wyle said, dedicating his award to healthcare workers.

In comedy, Seth Rogen’s The Studio triumphed as Best Comedy Series. Rogen, who co-created the Apple TV+ satire with Evan Goldberg, also won Best Comedy Actor, alongside trophies for directing and writing. “I’m legitimately embarrassed by how happy this makes me,” Rogen admitted.

CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert secured its first Emmy for Best Talk Series in its decade-long run, even as the network prepares to cancel the show. Colbert thanked CBS and jokingly asked the audience if anyone was hiring.

Netflix’s Adolescence, a dark drama about a teenager accused of murder, won Best Limited Series, with 15-year-old Owen Cooper making history as the youngest winner in his category, taking Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series.

Other notable wins included:

  • Jeff Hiller (Somebody Somewhere) as Best Supporting Comedy Actor.
  • Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) for Best Comedy Actress and Supporting Actress, respectively — Smart’s fourth Emmy for the role, and Einbinder’s first. Einbinder closed her speech with “Free Palestine,” one of the evening’s rare political statements.

Overall, HBO and Netflix tied with 30 awards each, while Apple TV+ followed with 22.

The ceremony, hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze, featured a playful twist: honorees who kept speeches short boosted a charity fund, while lengthy remarks reduced it. By the end of the night, Bargatze and CBS pledged $350,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America despite the fund running into “deficit” territory.
