Airport authorities confirmed that the first incoming flight from Sharjah, carrying 170 passengers, is scheduled to land in Sialkot soon.
Despite the recent floods, the airport’s runway, apron, terminal building, and essential equipment remained unharmed, allowing services to resume swiftly. Airlines have released updated flight schedules, while airport management assured that all necessary arrangements for smooth operations are in place.
Earlier, district administrations declared a public holiday as floodwaters worsened in Gujrat and Sialkot. Heavy inflows from India into the Sutlej and Chenab rivers prompted a province-wide flood alert.
The National Disaster Management Authority’s (NDMA) Emergency Operation Centre has issued urgent warnings of extraordinary flooding in the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, urging residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate. NDMA Chairman Lt Gen Inam Haider reported that over 190,000 people have already been evacuated from flood-hit regions of Punjab.
Gujrat Deputy Commissioner Noor-ul-Ain Qureshi and Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali inspected the situation at Head Marala, while DC Qureshi confirmed that 20 individuals trapped beneath Shahbazpur Bridge were successfully rescued.
