In a heartbreaking tragedy, 13 brave Pakistan Army soldiers embraced martyrdom on Saturday when an explosive-laden vehicle, driven by Indian-sponsored terrorists, targeted a military convoy in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, confirmed the attack and vowed that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
Suicide Bomber Targeted Military Convoy
According to the ISPR, a vehicle-borne suicide attacker tried to explode himself near a security forces convoy. The troops managed to intercept the attacker in time, preventing the suicide bomber from completing his full mission. However, in a desperate move, the terrorists rammed the explosive-laden vehicle into one of the convoy’s vehicles, causing a massive explosion and claiming the lives of 13 soldiers.
The soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation were:
- Subedar Zahid Iqbal (45)
- Havildar Sohrab Khan (39)
- Havildar Mian Yousaf (41)
- Naik Khitab Shah (34)
- Lance Naik Ismail (32)
- Sepoy Rohail (30)
- Sepoy Muhammad Ramzan (33)
- Sepoy Nawab (30)
- Sepoy Zubair Ahmed (24)
- Sepoy Muhammad Sahki (31)
- Sepoy Hashim Abbasi (20)
- Sepoy Muddasir Ejaz (25)

The ISPR called them the brave sons of the soil whose ultimate sacrifice will never be forgotten.
Civilian Casualties Reported
In addition to the military losses, three innocent civilians — including two children and a woman — were also severely injured in the blast. Their condition remains critical, as the incident once again highlights the toll terrorism takes not just on security forces, but on innocent lives caught in the crossfire.
Immediate Response and Retaliation
Following the suicide attack, the Pakistan Army launched a large-scale sanitisation operation in the surrounding area. An intense exchange of fire led to the elimination of 14 terrorists, according to the ISPR. Security forces are continuing clearance operations to ensure no more threats remain in the region.
The military emphasized, Operations in the area will continue, and the perpetrators of this heinous and cowardly act will be hunted down and brought to justice.
Pakistan’s Resolve Against Terrorism
The ISPR, in its strong-worded statement, placed the blame squarely on Indian-sponsored Kharjis, highlighting growing concerns about India’s alleged support for cross-border terrorism.
“The security forces of Pakistan, in step with the nation, remain resolute in their mission to eradicate terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, said the military. “These sacrifices will only further strengthen our national resolve to defend our homeland at all costs.
The statement ended by reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to the safety and sovereignty of the nation and honoring the legacy of its martyrs.
Rising Terror Threat Since 2021
Terrorist attacks in Pakistan have increased significantly since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021. Border regions such as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have become hotspots for militant activity, fueled by regional instability and alleged foreign interference.
In May 2025, militant attacks saw a 5% uptick compared to April, according to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). However, experts note that despite geopolitical tensions, particularly with India, militant groups remain largely contained due to the vigilance of Pakistan’s security forces.
A Nation in Mourning
Across the country, prayers and tributes are pouring in for the fallen heroes. Social media is flooded with messages of support, and government officials have expressed their sorrow and solidarity. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir are expected to attend a memorial ceremony in honor of the martyrs.
The nation mourns, but it also unites. Pakistan stands firm against terror, resolute in its belief that such cowardly attacks will never break its spirit. Instead, they ignite a renewed commitment to eliminate terrorism, secure its borders, and honor the memories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
