Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar strongly criticized the government’s approach towards constitutional amendments during a media briefing on Thursday. He expressed outrage over the abduction of PTI leader Zain Qureshi’s wife, allegedly orchestrated by the government to pressure the opposition.
Gohar accused the government of abandoning the rule of law and constitutional supremacy, stating, “If the government wants to use such coercive tactics to force constitutional amendments, it should openly declare its disregard for the legal process.”
He also made it clear that PTI would refuse to engage in parliamentary discussions on the amendment under these circumstances, emphasizing that legislation should be driven by conscience and independent choice rather than political maneuvering.
Gohar further mentioned that PTI had already communicated its stance to the ruling coalition, explaining that the party would only finalize its position after consulting with PTI founder Imran Khan. The party also indicated plans to review the government’s draft in consultation with Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
