Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated the Traffic Response Unit in Lahore on Wednesday.
During the event, the chief minister inspected the unit’s motorcycles, conversed with traffic wardens, and inquired about their training and other relevant matters. She also monitored the public address system used during traffic jams.
Following the launch, a special meeting on traffic management was chaired by CM Maryam Nawaz. She set a deadline to enhance traffic flow in Lahore, directing authorities to provide alternative locations for wheel-carts to ease congestion. She emphasized the importance of maintaining lane discipline and announced an awareness campaign for rickshaws and motorbikes.
The meeting reviewed the implementation of the Intelligence Traffic Signal Management System in Lahore. CM Maryam Nawaz instructed officials to devise effective and sustainable plans to address road encroachments and ordered the restoration of traffic guidance screens.
CTO Ammara Azhar briefed that the special traffic response unit, comprising 50 heavy bikes and 100 wardens, will respond promptly to traffic jams upon receiving a call at 15. The unit has undergone a month-long special training, including first aid training by Red Crescent. Each motorcycle will be equipped with a public address system, a first aid box, and a camera for recording incidents.
