Lahore high court grants permission for AML chief’s participation in upcoming general elections.

In a significant development, the Lahore High Court, on Wednesday, granted approval for Awami Muslim League (AML) chief to participate in the upcoming general elections scheduled for February 8.

A three-member bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) conducted a thorough hearing on an appeal challenging the acceptance of former interior minister Sheikh Rashid’s nomination papers. The LHC upheld the decision made by the appellate tribunal in favor of Rashid.

The petitioner argued that the acceptance of AML chief’s nomination papers disregarded crucial facts. Urging the Lahore High Court to overturn the appellate tribunal’s decision, the petitioner’s appeal was, however, dismissed. As a result, Sheikh Rashid’s nomination papers for NA-56 (Rawalpindi) stand accepted.
