Jillian Lauren, a bestselling author and wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot and injured by Los Angeles police and arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly pointing a firearm at officers outside her Eagle Rock home, authorities confirmed Wednesday.
The 51-year-old, identified in jail records as Jillian Lauren Shriner, was not involved in the original incident police were responding to—a misdemeanor hit-and-run. However, while searching for suspects in the area, officers encountered Lauren in her front yard holding a handgun. According to the LAPD, she ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon and allegedly pointed it at police, prompting officers to open fire.
Lauren was wounded and fled into her home, where she was subsequently taken into custody and transported to a hospital. Her injuries were not life-threatening. A 9mm handgun was recovered from the scene.
She has been booked on attempted murder charges and is currently held on $1 million bail, according to Los Angeles County jail records.
Her representatives, along with Weezer’s team, have not issued any statements, and there is no indication that Scott Shriner was involved in the incident. The band is still scheduled to perform at Coachella this weekend.
Lauren is known for her memoirs Some Girls: My Life in a Harem (2010) and Everything You Ever Wanted (2015), as well as her work investigating serial killer Samuel Little.
She has yet to appear in court, and it is unclear if she has obtained legal representation.
