Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, has issued a grave warning about Afghanistan turning into a safe haven for terrorists, posing a direct threat to Pakistan and its neighboring countries. Speaking to a delegation from the Harvard University Student Association, the Speaker highlighted serious challenges like terrorism and climate change, urging the international community to take immediate notice before the situation spirals out of control.
Afghan Soil Used for Terrorism Against Pakistan
During the meeting, Ayaz Sadiq stressed that Pakistan has repeatedly provided evidence to the Afghan interim government about the presence of terrorist organizations operating from its soil. The matter has also been raised at the United Nations and discussed with senior American officials.
The Speaker revealed that terrorists are using advanced weapons left behind by the United States in Afghanistan, making them a major security threat. He warned,
“The fire of terrorism in Pakistan can spread to other countries in the region. Even our neighbors will not be safe. The world must act before it is too late.”
Pakistan’s Struggle Against Terrorism and Heavy Losses
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq acknowledged the tremendous sacrifices made by Pakistan in its fight against terrorism. He stated that Pakistan’s security forces continue to battle terrorist elements with bravery, adding:
Pakistan has sacrificed over 90,000 lives in the war on terror.
The country has paid a heavy price both in terms of lives lost and economic setbacks.
Despite these sacrifices, Pakistan remains committed to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
Pakistan’s Stance on Neighboring Relations and Afghan Refugees
While Pakistan faces threats from across the border, Ayaz Sadiq reaffirmed the country’s commitment to maintaining peaceful relations with its neighbors. He highlighted that Pakistan has hosted over 4.6 million Afghan refugees for decades, bearing the burden of their needs without sufficient international support.
Pakistan has always stood by its neighbors, but security concerns cannot be ignored. We need global cooperation to ensure stability in the region.
Pakistan Among the Worst Victims of Climate Change
The Speaker also pointed out that Pakistan is one of the countries most affected by climate change. He recalled the devastating floods of 2022, which caused:
Immense loss of life
Billions in financial damages
Widespread displacement of communities
He called on the global community to assist Pakistan in mitigating climate change disasters and improving disaster preparedness.
Challenges in Pakistan’s Political Landscape
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also addressed the country’s political challenges, criticizing the opposition for its double standards. He pointed out that:
The opposition calls the government fake and illegal, yet actively participates as the Leader of the Opposition, Chairman of the PAC, and Standing Committees.
They have failed to discuss key public and national issues, focusing instead on political point-scoring.
As Custodian of the National Assembly, he has always ensured an impartial approach, giving the opposition more time to voice their concerns.
Pakistan’s Image Misrepresented on Social Media
In closing, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq noted that Pakistan’s true identity is often misrepresented on social media. He urged international visitors to experience the real Pakistan firsthand, beyond what is portrayed online.
The meeting ended with an emphasis on Pakistan’s resilience in the face of challenges, its commitment to regional peace, and the need for international support in tackling terrorism and climate change.
