The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) has declared February 8 as a Black Day across Sindh, protesting against alleged election rigging, worsening law and order, controversial PECA laws, and concerns over new canal projects.
GDA Secretary-General Dr. Safdar Abbasi described February 8 as a “dark chapter” in Pakistan’s history, claiming that Sindh’s mandate was “stolen through unprecedented rigging,” leading to the forced defeat of GDA candidates.
As part of the protest, GDA workers will wave black flags, wear black armbands, and hold peaceful demonstrations outside district press clubs.
Dr. Abbasi also criticized the 26th constitutional amendment, warning that it has sparked a constitutional crisis. He alleged that judicial appointments are now being influenced by political affiliations, undermining judicial transparency.
Denouncing the PECA amendments, he emphasized, “These draconian laws will not silence free journalism. The government must immediately repeal these anti-people measures.”
