Shah Rukh Khan Reveals Why He Initially Declined Rajkumar Hirani’s Film ‘Dhakad’

Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan’s latest film, ‘Dhakad,’ released recently and is garnering significant success at the box office. What makes this film unique is that it marks the first collaboration between director Rajkumar Hirani and Shah Rukh Khan.

In the past, director Rajkumar Hirani had offered Shah Rukh Khan roles in films like ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S.’ and ‘3 Idiots,’ but Shah Rukh Khan had turned down those opportunities. However, the reason behind his initial reluctance to work with Hirani has remained undisclosed until now.

In a recent interview, Shah Rukh Khan shed light on why he declined previous offers from Rajkumar Hirani. He explained that when he received the script for ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S.,’ he was already working on the film ‘Devdas,’ and he was prepared to work on ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S.’ without an increase in the script. Unfortunately, he suffered injuries during the shooting of ‘Devdas,’ leading to a spinal surgery that rendered him unable to collaborate on the film with Rajkumar Hirani at that time.

Subsequently, the role offered to Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Munnabhai M.B.B.S.’ went to Sanjay Dutt, and the rest is history, as the character became synonymous with Dutt’s acting prowess.

Later, Rajkumar Hirani approached Shah Rukh Khan for ‘3 Idiots,’ but once again, he was occupied with other projects, and his commitments made it impossible for him to participate in the film. Aamir Khan eventually took on the central role in ‘3 Idiots,’ turning it into a massive success.

Fast forward to the present, Rajkumar Hirani approached Shah Rukh Khan for ‘Dhakad,’ and this time, the collaboration materialized. Shah Rukh Khan recounted that he was all set to work on ‘Munna Bhai M.B.B.S.’ when a sudden injury changed the course of events. Despite these past instances, the duo has now successfully come together for ‘Dhakad,’ adding a new chapter to both their careers.

This revelation provides insight into the dynamics of Bollywood, showcasing the unforeseen twists and turns that impact casting decisions, emphasizing that timing and circumstances play a crucial role in the film industry.
