US President Donald Trump has announced that he will not attend the wedding of his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., citing pressing government responsibilities in Washington, D.C. The wedding, reportedly taking place this weekend on a private island in the Bahamas, will be a small and intimate ceremony attended by close family and friends.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed regret over missing the occasion. He stated that while he deeply wished to be present for his son and his future daughter-in-law, Bettina Anderson, his obligations as president required him to remain at the White House during what he described as a “very important period.” He emphasized that his decision was driven by duty and his commitment to national responsibilities rather than personal choice.
Speaking to reporters earlier, Trump acknowledged that Donald Trump Jr. had invited him and wanted him to attend. However, he noted that scheduling conflicts made it difficult. He briefly referenced ongoing international concerns, including diplomatic issues involving Iran, as part of his workload that kept him in Washington.
The report also notes that the Trump administration is currently engaged in sensitive diplomatic efforts, with Pakistan playing a mediating role in talks aimed at de-escalating tensions related to the ongoing conflict involving Iran. These negotiations have been described as complex and high-stakes, contributing to the president’s decision to stay in the capital.
This will be the third marriage engagement for Donald Trump Jr., who was previously married to Vanessa Trump, with whom he shares five children. Their marriage lasted 12 years before ending in divorce in 2018. He was later engaged to television personality Kimberly Guilfoyle, though the couple separated in 2024.
The upcoming wedding marks a new personal chapter for Trump Jr., even as his father balances family matters with the demands of the presidency and international diplomatic challenges.
