In the Saeffer case, there is a possibility of formal charges being filed against Imran Khan, the Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and Vice-Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The case will be heard by Judge Abul Hasanat Zaid Ali in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, as per the Official Secrets Act.
Previously, October 17 was set as the date for indictment, but objections were raised by PTI lawyers who refused to provide copies of the charge sheet. Subsequently, the date was rescheduled to October 23.
It is noteworthy that Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi are currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail in connection with the Saeffer case.
What is the Saeffer Case?
The Saeffer case emerged when Imran Khan, as the PTI chairman, made a public statement in the United States, accusing the American ambassador of conspiring against his government. He claimed that the United States was involved in orchestrating the downfall of his administration. However, this stance was later contradicted by the PTI government during a meeting of the National Security Committee.
Furthermore, an audio leak emerged related to Saeffer, where Imran Khan and his former Chief of Staff, Khan, were heard discussing whether they should arrange a meeting with the ambassador. Subsequently, the federal cabinet referred the matter for investigation to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).
In relation to the Saeffer case, former ISI DG Lieutenant General Babar Iftikhar stated that it was an attempt to create a dramatic narrative, spread rumors and false news, and the purpose was to gain political advantage.
