Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar Affirms Rule of Law, Electoral Preparedness, and Political Accountability in Pakistan

In a recent interview, Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar reiterated the Pakistani government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring equal treatment for all individuals, including prominent figures such as Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan, and Asif Ali Zardari. He emphasized that everyone must follow the legal process, assuring that legal assistance would be provided to anyone facing charges. Kakar dismissed the possibility of any backdoor deals, stating that the government does not provide soft corners for anyone, regardless of their political stature.

Regarding Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan, Kakar clarified that Sharif had left the country based on a court verdict during Imran Khan’s tenure as the Prime Minister. He emphasized that Sharif would have to face legal questions upon his return, and these inquiries were legal obligations.

Kakar also addressed the sensitive issue of Pakistan’s relations with India and firmly stated that there were currently no possibilities for improvement. He unequivocally condemned Israel as an occupying state and underscored Pakistan’s commitment to its principles in international affairs.

Responding to questions about his interactions with various political leaders, Kakar highlighted that he held meetings with politicians from different parties, including Maryam Nawaz, Bilawal Bhutto, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, and Asif Zardari. He clarified that his role was that of a parliamentarian before assuming the position of Prime Minister and that he would not be swayed by any specific party or individual, emphasizing the importance of fairness in his decisions.

Furthermore, Kakar emphasized the significance of Pakistan’s constitutional democracy, where legal procedures and judicial processes are paramount. He stressed that any decisions regarding political figures, including Imran Khan, would be based on judicial outcomes, reinforcing the rule of law in the country.
