The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a complaint against eBay in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, accusing the e-commerce platform of violating federal environmental laws. The complaint alleges that eBay failed to prevent the sale of various harmful products on its platform.
Among the issues raised in the complaint are the sale of aftermarket products designed to help vehicles evade federal emissions controls, the sale of products containing methylene chloride for paint and coating removal, and the sale of misbranded or restricted pesticides. Some of these products reportedly result in significant air pollution emissions from vehicles, while others pose immediate or potentially lethal dangers to individuals.
The U.S. Department of Justice has argued that eBay possesses the authority, resources, and means to prevent the sale of these illegal and harmful products on its platform but has chosen not to do so. The complaint asserts that eBay has actively engaged in these illegal transactions.
As of now, eBay has not provided a response to these allegations.
