Lamine Yamal faces hostile Bernabeu reception after Pre-Clasico remarks as Real Madrid beat Barcelona 2–1.

Real Madrid fans showed no mercy toward Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal during Sunday’s El Clasico, jeering the 18-year-old throughout the match after his controversial comments in the lead-up to the game.

In a televised interview on Friday, Yamal had accused Real Madrid of being a club that “cheat” and “complain,” remarks that sparked outrage among Los Blancos supporters ahead of the clash at the Santiago Bernabéu, which Madrid won 2–1.

Yamal endured a tense start to the game and appeared to concede a penalty after a tackle on Vinicius Jr, but the decision was overturned following a VAR review. The home crowd responded with relentless boos and whistles every time the young winger touched the ball, roaring particularly loud when a powerful shot from Vinicius deflected off Yamal.

Despite some early flashes of skill and quick link-ups with his Barcelona teammates, Yamal was kept largely quiet by Madrid left-back Álvaro Carreras, fading out of the match as Madrid took control.

Late in the game, tempers flared when Madrid captain Dani Carvajal, who also plays alongside Yamal for Spain, was seen telling the teenager that he “talks too much.”

After the match, Barcelona assistant manager Marcus Sorg acknowledged that the heated Bernabéu atmosphere may have rattled the young star.

“It’s possible. Perhaps a little. Because he’s learning to deal with the crowd, the booing… It’s a process. He’s usually very motivated, but today wasn’t easy for him,” Sorg said.

Meanwhile, Barcelona received a boost earlier this month when midfielder Frenkie de Jong extended his contract with the club until 2029. The 28-year-old Dutch international, who joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019, has since won two La Liga titles and two Copa del Rey trophies with the Catalan giants.
