TikTok has announced a new set of safety features designed to give parents greater visibility and control over their children’s activity on the platform. As part of its enhanced “Family Pairing” tools, the app will now notify parents when their teen uploads a new video.
These updates come amid ongoing concerns about the impact of social media on young users’ mental health and well-being. With the latest changes, parents will also be able to see the topics their children select to personalize their content feed, as well as review the privacy settings on their teen’s account.
In addition to the parental controls, TikTok has rolled out new features to support the well-being of content creators. These include improved comment filtering, the option to mute specific words or emojis, and enhanced moderation tools for TikTok Live sessions.
The platform, along with other social media giants, has faced growing scrutiny over its content policies and user safety practices. TikTok was fined £1.8 million last year for failing to adequately respond to a regulatory request from Ofcom regarding harmful content exposure.
The new features are part of TikTok’s broader efforts to rebuild trust and promote safer use of its platform, especially among younger audiences.
