Saeed Ajmal delivered a sensational spell of spin bowling, claiming a record-breaking six-wicket haul to lead Pakistan Champions to a resounding 10-wicket victory over Australia Champions in the World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025 on Tuesday. The dominant win propelled Pakistan to the top of the points table.
Chasing a modest target of 75 at Grace Road, Pakistan’s openers made light work of the chase, sealing victory in just 7.3 overs. Sharjeel Khan led the charge with an unbeaten 32 off 23 balls, smashing five boundaries, while Sohaib Maqsood remained not out on 28 off 26 deliveries, hitting four fours.
Stand-in captain Shoaib Malik’s decision to bowl first paid off handsomely as Australia were bowled out for just 74 in 11.5 overs. The early wickets of Shaun Marsh (7) and Chris Lynn (6) reduced Australia to 17/2 before a brief resistance from Ben Dunk (26 off 14) and D’Arcy Short (10).
Ajmal’s game-changing over saw him dismiss both Dunk and Short, triggering a collapse that Australia couldn’t recover from. Ajmal ended with historic figures of 6/16 in 3.5 overs—the best bowling performance in WCL history. Imad Wasim added pressure with 2/11, while Sohail Tanvir and Sohail Khan picked up one wicket apiece.
The comprehensive win took Pakistan Champions to nine points from five games, placing them at the top of the standings. Despite the loss, Australia Champions remained third with five points. Both teams, along with South Africa Champions, have secured their places in the semi-finals.
