Authorities have released a comprehensive report detailing the widespread destruction caused by monsoon rains in Pakistan from June 26 to July 17, highlighting a grim picture of human and material losses across several provinces.
In just the past 24 hours, 15 people—including eight children—lost their lives in rain-related incidents. An additional 53 individuals sustained injuries during this period.
The cumulative death toll from this year’s monsoon season has now reached 193, with 544 people injured nationwide. Punjab has been the worst affected, reporting 114 deaths and 437 injuries. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 40 fatalities and 57 injuries have been confirmed. Sindh recorded 21 deaths and 40 injuries, while Balochistan reported 16 deaths and 4 injuries. Both Azad Kashmir and Islamabad recorded one fatality each.
Beyond the human toll, the monsoon has also caused significant damage to homes and livestock. In the last 24 hours alone, 79 houses were damaged and 67 livestock animals drowned. Since the onset of the monsoon, a total of 689 homes have been either damaged or destroyed, and 193 livestock animals have perished.
This alarming scale of destruction highlights the persistent vulnerability of communities across Pakistan to extreme weather events and the urgent need to strengthen disaster preparedness and climate resilience.
