Pakistan and Oman agree to finalize MoU on labor and manpower exchange.

Pakistan and Oman have reached an agreement to expedite the finalization of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on labor and manpower exchange, aimed at facilitating the movement of Pakistani workers to Oman. This decision was made during a meeting in Muscat between Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, and Dr. Mahad bin Said bin Ali Baowain, Minister of Labour of Oman.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain is currently on a three-day visit to Oman, where he plans to meet with various ministers and inaugurate a new branch of the Pakistan International School in Muscat.

During the meeting, Hussain highlighted the significant reforms being undertaken by the Pakistani government to improve the emigration process for its workers, enhance their professional skills, and market the Pakistani workforce abroad. He mentioned that the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis is modernizing technical training centers in Pakistan to align training programs with the certification requirements of different countries and regions.

Additionally, Hussain announced the introduction of a compulsory pre-departure orientation program for all workers going abroad. This program will educate workers about the labor laws of the host country, their rights and duties, cultural sensitivities, and available recourse mechanisms in case of any issues during their stay abroad.

Dr. Mahad bin Said bin Ali Baowain emphasized the cordial relations between Pakistan and Oman, noting the valuable contributions of Pakistani workers to Oman’s development. He recognized the skills of Pakistani workers across various fields and expressed Oman’s commitment to streamlining the migration process for workers while addressing any challenges.

Hussain also invited his Omani counterpart to visit Pakistan to explore technical training facilities and potential collaborations in training. He proposed the possibility of Omani investment in skill development centers in Pakistan, focusing on training workers to meet the demands of the Omani market. Both parties agreed to enhance official engagements between the two countries.
