Minister for Petroleum, Dr. Musadik Masood Malik, announced on Tuesday that the current gas tariff will remain unchanged through the winter months of December and January. In a press conference, he emphasized that the government has not increased gas prices and is committed to avoiding any additional financial burden on the public.
Dr. Malik assured that any decisions to provide relief would be made in consultation with all provinces, aiming to avoid increasing gas prices. He also highlighted that 98% of domestic electricity consumers in Punjab, using up to 500 units, have been granted relief by the provincial government, with 86% of those consuming up to 200 units receiving similar relief from the federal government. He urged other provincial governments to follow suit.
Addressing political leaders, Dr. Malik called for an end to chaos and encouraged participation in parliamentary committees to support national development. He criticized elements attempting to hinder the country’s progress and recalled that the opposition was offered the chance to form the government after the elections but declined.
He further accused the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of hiring a U.S. lobbying firm to pass a resolution against Pakistan, despite blaming the U.S. for regime change. Dr. Malik also pointed out ongoing corruption within PTI, noting internal conflicts and the arrests of key leaders, which he claimed have left the party in disarray. He highlighted widespread corruption in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and condemned those facilitating terrorism, urging accountability for the sacrifices made by the armed forces.
