Empoli has appointed Davide Nicola as their new head coach after parting ways with Aurelio Andreazzoli, announced the Serie A side on Monday. The decision to say goodbye to Andreazzoli came after Empoli’s 13th league loss in 20 games, securing the 19th position in the standings with a 2-1 defeat against Hellas Verona on Saturday.
Aurelio Andreazzoli assumed the managerial role in September, succeeding Paolo Zanetti, after Empoli found themselves at the bottom of Serie A without a point following a 7-0 defeat against AS Roma.
Davide Nicola, renowned for his previous coaching stint with Salernitana, where he successfully steered them clear of relegation in the 2021-22 season, has taken over the leadership at Empoli. The club, currently facing challenges in Serie A, expressed confidence in Nicola’s abilities to guide the team. The 50-year-old coach, who has also managed Torino, Genoa, and Udinese in recent years, signed an annual contract with an option for a further season.
Empoli announced in a statement, “The coach will lead the first training session tomorrow afternoon,” signaling the beginning of a new chapter under Davide Nicola’s leadership.
