Imran Khan Threatens Supreme Court Action if Election Not Contested Fairly

Islamabad: Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has declared his intent to approach the Supreme Court if the upcoming elections are not conducted fairly. This statement follows Khan’s informal conversation with the media in Adiala Jail yesterday.

During this informal exchange, Imran Khan made strong remarks regarding the Sharif family, asserting that Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, and Maryam Nawaz are certified money launderers. He expressed dissatisfaction with the exoneration of Shehbaz Sharif in proven scandals involving Rs 24 billion, questioning why those proven guilty should not be arrested. Additionally, he defended his stance against the arrest of Bushra Bibi, stating that trust properties cannot be owned by anyone and pointed out that even Shaukat Khanum Hospital’s land is not his possession.

Imran Khan further alleged that Aamir Liaquat Hussain was tortured to prevent him from contesting elections and that General Bajwa suggested sitting silently, assuring that a two-thirds majority would be arranged. He claimed that such interference in party matters had never happened in Pakistan’s history. Currently, out of the thirty-three seats, only sixteen are retained by PTI.

Accusing the ruling party of undermining the rule of law, Imran Khan claimed that the entire legal framework had been nullified using the power of authority. However, he clarified that his party has not experienced such interference. Imran Khan highlighted that General Bajwa had advised him to remain silent in August 2022, assuring a two-thirds majority, and if not, restricting the party to thirty seats. He emphasized that such events were unprecedented in Pakistan’s history.

Imran Khan also accused the PML-N of having received signals in 2002 that they should join the League, alleging that two of their Tier-3 leaders have been enticed away. Expressing concern over the situation, he stated that they were left with only an Under-16 player at this point.

The PTI founder concluded his statements by saying that if negotiations were to occur, they should be open and fair. He reiterated that if the elections were not contested fairly, he would approach the Supreme Court. He expressed confidence in the judiciary, stating that the entire world is watching the Supreme Court closely, as all other institutions have already been compromised.

Imran Khan’s remarks underscore the escalating tensions in Pakistan’s political landscape, raising questions about the fairness of the upcoming elections and the role of various institutions in the country.
