As the electoral process for the 2024 general elections unfolds, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), whose headquarters is in Adiala Jail, has submitted his nomination papers. Raey Mohammad Ali, the legal representative of the PTI founder, conveyed the nomination documents to contest elections from three constituencies: Mianwali, Lahore, and Islamabad.
Raey Mohammad Ali stated that despite their submission of nomination papers, the administrative authorities at Adiala Jail allegedly revoked the documents seven hours later. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is expected to address such complaints as part of its commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process.
Simultaneously, the process of collecting and submitting nomination papers continued across the country. In Islamabad, the Returning Officer’s office witnessed the conclusion of the collection phase for three National Assembly seats. Various political parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan Peoples Party, Pakistan Muslim League-N, and Awami National Party, actively participated in gathering and submitting their candidates’ nomination papers.
Furthermore, in Islamabad’s District Returning Officer office, six candidates from different parties collected nomination papers for NA-46. Meanwhile, for NA-47, 23 candidates submitted nomination papers, with nine initiating the collection process. For NA-48, 19 hopefuls obtained nomination papers, while 11 started the collection process.
Prominent figures, including Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Raja Imran Ashraf, Mian Aslam, and Kashif Chaudhry, secured nomination papers for NA-47 and NA-48. Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, with his independent status, collected forms for NA-47 and NA-48, bringing his total collection to 132 forms from NA-46, 153 nomination papers from NA-47, and 120 forms from NA-48 within two days.
The dynamics of nomination paper submissions highlight the increasing activity and competitiveness among various political parties and independent candidates as the election season gains momentum. The allegations of interference in the submission process underscore the importance of vigilance by election authorities to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.
