Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif stated on Sunday that Pakistan demonstrated maximum restraint despite facing unfounded accusations and hostility in the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident.
“Despite offering full cooperation and supporting an impartial investigation, India opted for confrontation instead of engaging in dialogue,” he remarked.
He emphasized that Pakistan’s response was guided by restraint and strategic decision-making, avoiding hasty reactions. This approach, he noted, reflects Pakistan’s dedication to regional peace and responsible diplomacy.
Addressing India’s decision to suspend provisions of the Indus Waters Treaty, Asif rejected the move, pointing out that the treaty contains no clause that permits such action. “There is no question of suspension—the treaty simply does not allow it,” he asserted.
He also lauded the Pakistan Armed Forces, particularly highlighting the Pakistan Air Force’s exceptional performance, which he said was recognized by international media for its professionalism and superiority during recent tensions.
Looking ahead, Asif said that future bilateral talks with India must address core issues such as the Indus Waters Treaty, terrorism, and the Kashmir dispute.
Concluding his remarks, the minister noted that the regional strategic landscape is evolving both militarily and diplomatically, and expressed optimism that this shift would benefit Pakistan. “A better future lies ahead for Pakistan, InshaAllah,” he said.
