Parvez Elahi’s release and arrest for the third time despite court orders, today

Despite court orders for the release of Pervez Elahi, this marks his third arrest. Today, the Lahore High Court has issued orders for his presentation in Islamabad High Court. The police released him as per the directive of the Islamabad High Court. However, Wing of Counter Terrorism Police arrested him from the Judicial Complex in connection with a case. He will be presented before the Anti-Terrorism Court to obtain his physical remand.

Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri mentioned that there’s no need to keep him in custody for another case if he’s already involved in one. The Lahore High Court stated that the state appears hesitant to present Pervez Elahi.

This case has seen some dramatic turns as former Punjab Chief Minister and central president of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Chaudhry Pervez Elahi was arrested again after his recent release. He was taken into custody in the premises of the Judicial Complex. The Islamabad High Court had ordered his release just yesterday, and the Islamabad Police had released him from Adiala Jail.

However, upon his release, he was apprehended by the personnel of the Counter Terrorism Police’s Wing near Capital Police Lines. The spokesperson of the Islamabad Inspector General (IG) informed that Pervez Elahi’s arrest is related to the attack on the Judicial Complex case, registered as FIR 2023/3.

These developments in the legal proceedings involving Chaudhry Pervez Elahi have raised questions about the legal process and the apparent conflict in decisions from different courts. It remains to be seen how this situation will unfold and whether it will impact the political landscape in Pakistan.
