Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s commitment to media freedom and the importance of constructive criticism in governance during a meeting with the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA). He emphasized that the media serves as the fourth pillar of the state, playing a crucial role in Pakistan’s development and governance.

Media Freedom and Constructive Criticism

The Prime Minister reiterated the government’s respect for freedom of expression and welcomed media’s constructive feedback on government policies. “The relationship between the government and media is built on mutual trust. Constructive criticism is essential for improving governance,” said Shehbaz Sharif. He added that the government values the media’s role in promoting transparency and accountability.

Economic Achievements and Policies

Highlighting Pakistan’s economic progress, Shehbaz Sharif credited the nation’s business-friendly policies for advancements in the industrial and agricultural sectors, as well as the rise in exports. He acknowledged the role of the government’s economic team in reducing inflation and interest rates, while expressing gratitude to friendly nations for their support in averting an economic crisis.

He noted that reforms within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) are in full swing, with efforts focused on digitalization and the implementation of a faceless assessment system. These measures aim to increase revenue collection, enhance transparency, and eliminate corruption.

Udan Pakistan: A National Development Initiative

Shehbaz Sharif introduced Udan Pakistan, a locally developed national project designed to spur development. He stressed that collaboration among the media, stakeholders, and the government would ensure the project’s success.

CPEC and Economic Stability

The Prime Minister also discussed the progress of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), describing it as a game-changer for the nation. He assured that the government is working tirelessly to expedite CPEC projects, which are already yielding positive results.

Shehbaz Sharif criticized groups opposing Pakistan’s economic stability, accusing them of spreading negativity about the country’s development. He stated, Anti-national elements are finding it hard to digest Pakistan’s progress.

Combating Terrorism

Touching upon national security, the Prime Minister commended the sacrifices of the Pakistani armed forces and the nation in the fight against terrorism. He pledged to continue efforts to eliminate the menace of terrorism and ensure peace in the country.
