Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Remembers Benazir Bhutto’s Legacy and Criticizes Government’s Failures

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari

In a powerful address at Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari marked the anniversary of Benazir Bhutto’s martyrdom, reflecting on her legacy and criticizing the current government’s policies. Bilawal, the son of the late Benazir Bhutto, highlighted the political struggles and conspiracies that continue to threaten Pakistan’s sovereignty, particularly with regard to its missile and nuclear programs.

Bilawal Bhutto’s Address: A Call for Unity

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari made it clear that the PPP has never been driven by the desire for power, asserting, “We are neither selected nor Form 47.” He emphasized that the PPP was not interested in government positions or ministries when it joined forces with the PML-N to form a government. Instead, the party’s priority was to collaboratively develop the Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) with the PML-N. He further stated that despite reaching an agreement with the government, the implementation of the agreement had failed.

According to Bilawal, the government has not honored its commitments, leading to a growing sense of disillusionment. He expressed concerns over the government’s unilateral decision-making and stressed that the PPP believes in collective decisions made through consensus, as opposed to one-sided policies. Bilawal firmly stated that such decisions lack strength and legitimacy, which is why he insists on a more inclusive approach to governance.

Opposition to Government’s Canal Policy

Bilawal also raised strong objections to the government’s canal policy, claiming it violates the previous agreements and decisions made by the PPP and PML-N. He emphasized that this policy could not be implemented without the input of all parties involved, particularly when it affects the country’s vital water resources.

His speech underscored a larger message: unity is essential to counter the ongoing international conspiracies and internal challenges facing Pakistan. Bilawal emphasized that the PPP would not allow Pakistan’s nuclear and missile programs to be compromised under any circumstances. He reiterated that Benazir Bhutto, his mother, had spearheaded Pakistan’s missile technology development, and this achievement, along with Pakistan’s nuclear program, would be defended at all costs.

Defending Pakistan’s Sovereignty

A significant portion of Bilawal’s address was dedicated to the issue of Pakistan’s defense capabilities. He pointed out that foreign powers, particularly the Zionist government of Israel, had consistently raised concerns about Pakistan’s missile program. Bilawal criticized political parties in Pakistan that, in his view, have raised their voices in support of Israel, questioning their stance on Pakistan’s defense.

Bilawal made it clear that the PPP would not allow Pakistan’s nuclear assets to be bargained away or compromised by any political puppet, regardless of the pressures they might face. His words echoed a strong message of national pride and the necessity of protecting the country’s sovereignty from both external and internal threats.

Remembering Benazir Bhutto’s Martyrdom

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also took the opportunity to reflect on the martyrdom of his mother, Benazir Bhutto, who was tragically killed in a terrorist attack on December 27, 2007, while returning from a rally in Liaquat Bagh, Rawalpindi. In his speech, Bilawal spoke of how the enemies of Pakistan had hoped that Benazir’s death would silence the voice of the people forever. However, he assured the crowd that despite her loss, the PPP continues to carry forward her vision of democracy, justice, and the empowerment of the people.

The PPP chairman reminded the gathering that the political puppets who were imposed after Benazir Bhutto’s martyrdom failed to silence the people’s voice. He stated that these puppets were now prepared to make deals on Pakistan’s nuclear and missile programs, which the PPP would never allow.

Asif Zardari’s Tribute at Benazir Bhutto’s Shrine

Following Bilawal’s address, his father, Asif Ali Zardari, the former president of Pakistan, also paid tribute to Benazir Bhutto. Asif Zardari offered Fateha and laid flowers at the shrine of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, Larkana. He also paid his respects at the shrine of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the PPP and Benazir’s father.

Asif Zardari spoke emotionally about his wife’s unwavering commitment to the principles of democracy and justice, describing her as a visionary who dreamed of a Pakistan where the power would always rest in the hands of the people. He reflected on her enduring legacy and how her vision continues to inspire millions across Pakistan.

A Vision for Pakistan’s Future

The speeches of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Asif Zardari reinforced the PPP’s commitment to democratic values and national sovereignty. They made it clear that the party would continue to uphold the principles laid out by Benazir Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, ensuring that their vision for a democratic, just, and prosperous Pakistan is realized.

The PPP’s message is clear: despite the challenges, the party will stand united and will not compromise on the fundamental rights of the people or Pakistan’s defense capabilities. The legacy of Benazir Bhutto remains a guiding light for the party, and the PPP is determined to continue her fight for a better Pakistan.
