Russia’s Black Sea Fleet has reportedly relocated many of its warships from the naval base in Sevastopol, Crimea, due to ongoing attacks by Ukraine, according to remarks made by Dmitry Rogozin, a Russian-installed official in the Zaporizhzhia region and former head of Russia’s space agency. This marks the first official acknowledgment from Russia regarding the fleet’s movement from Sevastopol, which Russia annexed in 2014.
Rogozin’s comments, published in the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper, coincide with Ukraine’s assertions that its strikes on Russian vessels in the Black Sea have compelled Moscow to shift its ships to Novorossiisk for safety.
In addition to addressing the fleet’s relocation, Rogozin emphasized the need for Russia to enhance its military capabilities, particularly in drone development, electronic warfare, and satellite positioning systems. He noted that “a military-technical revolution is taking place before our very eyes,” highlighting the rapid advancements in technology that are altering the dynamics on the battlefield. According to Rogozin, the pace of innovation is reshaping the situation at the front lines every month.
