The Lahore High Court has scheduled a hearing for Information and Broadcasting Minister Azma Bokhari’s plea regarding a fake video circulating on social media. The case will be heard by Justice Aalia Neelum on October 11.
The court has requested a progress report from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) concerning the case. Bokhari has filed a complaint against the fabricated video, asserting that it has led to character assassination and malignment.
In her plea, Bokhari has called for legal action against Falak Javed, whom she accuses of being involved in the dissemination of the fake video online.
During the previous hearing, the court directed the FIA to complete its investigation by the upcoming hearing date and address the case on its merits. Additionally, the court has asked for arguments regarding the legal status of social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.
The FIA’s Director General requested additional time to complete the investigation, citing challenges due to the absence of Facebook and Twitter offices in Pakistan. He informed the court that a raid had been conducted at the KP House, and assistance from the police may be needed, but more time is required to thoroughly investigate the matter.
The FIA DG indicated that the investigation committee’s resources are being increased and that the case would likely take two to three weeks to conclude.
