Former South African captain AB de Villiers has expressed support for Babar Azam following the Pakistani cricketer’s resignation as captain of the national white-ball team. Responding to Babar’s announcement on social media, de Villiers congratulated him, saying, “Congratulations! You have been amazing, and now you’ll score even more runs for your team.”
Babar Azam stepped down from the captaincy on Wednesday amid growing criticism over his leadership, particularly due to a lack of major achievements in ICC tournaments and his recent struggles in red-ball cricket, which intensified the pressure on him.
During his tenure as captain, Babar led Pakistan in 43 One-Day Internationals, winning 26 and losing 15. In T20 Internationals, he won 48 out of 85 matches, while losing 29. At 29 years old, Babar now looks to focus on improving his performance with the bat.
