Commodore Asim Sohail Malik of the Pakistan Navy officially took over the command from Capt. Mathews of the Royal Canadian Navy. The transition of command was celebrated with a formal ceremony, underscoring the significance of the Pakistan Navy’s ongoing role in promoting maritime security and countering illicit activities at sea.

CTF-150 is one of the five task forces operating under the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), an international coalition dedicated to enhancing maritime security in key regions around the world. The task force focuses on combating piracy, smuggling, and other illegal activities on the high seas.

In his address to the audience, Commodore Malik assured that his team is fully prepared to handle the responsibilities associated with this prestigious position. “We are geared up to efficiently shoulder this responsibility and contribute towards maritime security and stability in the region,” Malik stated. He also expressed his appreciation for the outgoing commander, Capt. Mathews, and his team for their dedicated efforts and significant achievements during their tenure.

Commodore Malik emphasized the strategic importance of CTF-150’s area of responsibility, which encompasses some of the world’s most critical and challenging international waters. He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with coalition navies to enhance security and stability within this vital maritime region. The commodore highlighted the Pakistan Navy’s longstanding history with CTF-150, noting that this is the 13th time the Navy has commanded the task force. This repeated leadership role reflects the trust and respect the Pakistan Navy has earned from its coalition partners.

The change of command ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Pakistani Ambassador to Bahrain Saqib Rauf, Honourary Consul of Canada in Bahrain Hatim Zubi, Commander of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) Vice Admiral George M. Wikoff, and Commander of the Royal Bahrain Naval Force Rear Admiral Ahmed Al Binali. Representatives from various other navies operating with CMF were also present, underscoring the multinational nature of the task force and the collaborative spirit of the operation.

The Pakistan Navy’s assumption of command for the 13th time highlights its continued commitment to maritime security and its ability to lead within the international coalition. The Navy’s leadership is expected to bring a renewed focus and effectiveness to CTF-150’s mission, reinforcing efforts to secure the vital maritime corridors that are crucial to global trade and regional stability.
