Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met with US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome, and both parties agreed to enhance mutual cooperation in counter-terrorism, anti-narcotics, and security. The meeting took place during the Ambassador’s visit to the Ministry of Interior, where Mr. Naqvi and other officials warmly welcomed him.
During their discussion, both sides emphasized the importance of Pakistan-US relations, security, and other areas of mutual interest. They pledged to enhance cooperation in key areas such as security, counter-terrorism, and anti-narcotics. Additionally, they agreed to organize “Law Enforcement Dialogues” in October to further solidify their collaborative efforts.
Minister Naqvi assured Ambassador Blome of the Interior Ministry’s full cooperation in strengthening bilateral relations. Reflecting on his recent visit to New York, Naqvi mentioned discussions regarding cooperation between Islamabad and the New York Police Department. He announced that a delegation from Islamabad Police would soon visit New York to enhance mutual cooperation and that Islamabad officers are keen to receive training from the NYPD.
Minister Naqvi also highlighted that Pakistan’s minorities are enjoying equal rights under the country’s constitution and assured the Ambassador that all measures are being taken to apprehend those involved in the Jaranwala incident.
In addition to security matters, the discussion touched on cricket. As the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Naqvi praised the US government for hosting a successful T20 World Cup. He mentioned ongoing efforts to arrange a tri-nation series involving Pakistan, the US, and Canada, and the possibility of establishing a cricket league in America and Canada.
Ambassador Blome expressed his gratitude, noting that a large number of cricket enthusiasts enjoyed the T20 World Cup matches.
