During its recent meeting led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, the federal cabinet sanctioned Pakistan’s inaugural music policy, as confirmed by Marriyum Aurangzeb in a tweet.
Aurangzeb took to Twitter to explain that the new music policy aims to address challenges related to piracy, copyright infringement, and other issues faced by the music industry. The policy will incorporate elements such as public performance, production, distribution, duration, mechanical rights, and communication rights into a solid legal structure.
The primary components of the Pakistan music policy encompass:
- Safeguarding Pakistan’s diverse musical heritage.
- Fostering the growth and advancement of the current music landscape.
- Establishing a legal framework that offers protection to musical works, which is artist-friendly, comprehensive in implementation, and adaptable to technological progress.
