Mexican resident dies due to chronic diseases, not bird flu health ministry.

A Mexican resident identified with A(H5N2) bird flu has died, but the cause of death was chronic diseases rather than the virus itself, according to a statement from Mexico’s health ministry on Friday.

Earlier in the week, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed the first laboratory-confirmed human case of A(H5N2) avian influenza in Mexico. However, specialists determined that the patient’s long-term health conditions were the cause of multiple organ failure, not the bird flu.

The 59-year-old man had suffered from chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and arterial hypertension for the past 14 years. The health ministry emphasized that there is no evidence of person-to-person transmission of the A(H5N2) virus related to this case.
