Nasir Abbas clinches bronze medal in 2023 tent pegging world cup for Pakistan.

On the inaugural day of the 2023 Tent Pegging World Cup in George, South Africa, Pakistan’s Nasir Abbas secured a bronze medal in the individual lance category.

Nasir Abbas demonstrated outstanding skills and remained a prominent performer for Pakistan on the first day of the championship. However, as a team, Pakistan stood in the 5th position.

The opening day of the competition featured riders participating in seven different rounds of the lance category, including two individual runs, two pairs runs, and three team runs.

Nasir Abbas from Pakistan was recognized as the third-best player of the day due to his skillful performance, earning him the bronze medal. The first and second positions in the lance competition were secured by Abdul Wahab and Rashid Al Marri from Saudi Arabia.

Nasir Abbas delivered an exceptional performance by not missing a single point in any of the seven runs. He successfully executed the tasks of piercing, picking up, and carrying the peg in all seven rounds, accumulating a total of 42 points.

In the lance category, both Saudi Arabian riders also accumulated 42 points, but they secured an advantage over Abbas due to their faster run times when time was factored in among the three competitors.

In the team standings, Jordan led the pack after day one, followed by Saudi Arabia in 2nd place, and Egypt in 3rd place, with Pakistan holding the 5th position. Jordan amassed 159 points, Saudi Arabia secured 154, Egypt earned 150, and India claimed the 4th position with 145.5 points.

Pakistan accumulated 144 points after the first day. Notably, they would have secured the third position if Wajahatullah had not missed his target in the team run.

The championship’s second day on Friday will witness players competing in the “sword” category, participating in seven runs.

On the championship’s final day on Saturday, there will be a total of six runs, featuring two each in the rings and peg, lemons and peg, and relay categories.

Following the culmination of the three-day competition, the team with the highest cumulative points from a total of 20 runs will be crowned the World Champions.
