Jordan Henderson, currently playing for Ajax Amsterdam, is determined to secure a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championship in Germany. The 33-year-old midfielder, who moved to Ajax from Liverpool, is hopeful that his performance in the Dutch league will catch Southgate’s attention.
Having terminated his contract with Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ettifaq in January, Henderson is eager to contribute to the national team. Southgate was present at Johan Cruyff Arena last month when Henderson made his Ajax debut in a 1-1 draw against PSV Eindhoven.
Speaking about Southgate’s interest, Henderson stated, “It was nice to see that he is keeping an eye on me.” He emphasized the importance of focusing on his current responsibilities at Ajax and believes that performing well there will enhance his chances of earning a spot in the England squad.
Expressing confidence in his ability to contribute, Henderson said, “I definitely feel I can offer something to the national team. Of course, I feel I can help the squad and the team going forward in the next camp and hopefully in the summer.”
England is placed in Group D alongside Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia in Euro 2024, which kicks off on June 14. Henderson’s aspirations to be part of the squad align with his commitment to making a positive impact on the team’s performance.
