According to sources, the investigative committee of the Election Commission had sent a notice to the former Commissioner of Rawalpindi Division to provide a statement. It’s reported that Liaqat Ali Chatha has now recorded his statement before the Election Commission’s committee.

Iqbal highlighted instances where he had been targeted unfairly, citing fabricated legal cases and personal attacks as evidence of the opposition’s desperation. He claimed that while he was busy with preparations for his daughter’s wedding, false accusations were being leveled against him in an attempt to tarnish his reputation.

Sources also indicate that the list of successful independent candidates and their statements regarding joining the party have been submitted to the Election Commission by Prince Hameed Raza, the head of the Sunni Ittehad Council.

It is pertinent to mention that appeals against the sentences were filed in the Islamabad High Court last week. However, due to the aforementioned issues with the records and copies, the court has rejected the appeals.

Furthermore, MQM has underscored that it has no desire to join the federal cabinet and will not engage in horse-trading like other political parties. The party’s focus remains on advocating for the rights and interests of the people of Sindh, particularly in matters concerning governance and autonomy.
