Russia launches drone and missile attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure in Ukraine.

In a significant escalation, Russia conducted drone and missile attacks targeting civilian areas and vital infrastructure throughout Ukraine, as reported by Kyiv’s Air Force on Sunday.

Preliminary information shared on the Telegram messaging app by the air force did not indicate any immediate casualties resulting from the attacks.

Tensions between Russia and Ukraine have manifested in increased air attacks on each other’s territories in recent months, with a focus on critical military, energy, and transport infrastructure.

According to the air force, Russia employed two ballistic missiles from the Iskander ballistic missile system to attack the central Poltava region. Additionally, three surface-to-air missiles targeted the Donetsk region in the east.

Governor Filip Pronin of the Poltava region reported on Telegram that the attack struck an industrial site in the city of Kremenchuk, leading to a fire. Images circulated on social media showed emergency crews working to extinguish the blaze.

In the Zaporizhzhia region further southeast, Governor Yuri Malashko confirmed a drone attack on an infrastructure site. While emergency crews were on-site, details regarding damage or casualties were not immediately provided.

Ukraine’s air defense systems reportedly destroyed four out of eight drones launched by Russia overnight, according to the air force. Reuters was unable to independently verify these reports, and there has been no immediate response from Russia.
