Alphabet’s Google has revealed plans for significant layoffs across various teams, including its Voice Assistant unit, hardware team responsible for Pixel, Nest, and Fitbit, as well as the augmented reality (AR) team. Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman are also leaving the company. While the exact number of impacted roles remains unspecified, Google stated that the reorganization aims to enhance efficiency and align resources with key product priorities. This move follows Google’s earlier announcement in January 2023 about cutting 12,000 jobs, representing 6% of its global workforce. The company had 182,381 employees globally as of September 2023.
